first, say these 10 simple rhyming words out loud...
1-bun
2-shoe
3-tree
4-door
5-hive
6-sticks
7-heaven
8-gate
9-line
10-hen
next, picture each object in your mind and say them again without looking at the list.
finally, picture the object in relation to the commandment.
Here's how I pictured them:
1-bun picture God's body (we can't see his face) as he holds a hot dog BUN
the commandment is "there is only One True God..you shall have no other God's before me)
2-shoe Picture the golden calf wearing tennis shoes while being worshiped by a crowd of people
the commandment is "don't worship idols"
3-tree Picture a big tree and the trunk is all carved up with swear words.
the commandment is "don't swear...do not take the name of the Lord in vain"
4-door Picture a beautiful stained glass church door
the commandment is "remember the Sabbath and keep it holy"
5-hive Picture your mom and dad holding up an old fashioned bee hive, but not getting stung
the commandment is "honor your parents...which comes with a promise..you shall live long"
6-sticks Picture a dead man who has been impaled with sticks, blood seeping from his body
the commandment is "do not murder"
7-heaven Picture a cloud with a man and two women standing on it. picture one of the women crossed out with a bold red "x"
the commandment is "do not commit adultery"
8-gate Picture a picket fence with a gate and a masked burglar hiding behind the gate.
the commnandment is "do not steal"
9-line Picture fishing line tangled up all around a proud angler as he lies about the size of his fish
the commandment is "do not lie....do not bear false witness against your neighbor"
10-hen Picture a hen standing on her little chicken coup, looking with great big eyes at the huge chicken coup next door
the commandment is "do not covet"
now, test yourself to see what you remember. Tell yourself a number and then give the commandment, or give the commandment and tell what number goes with it.
